Well worth the money vs. a $200+ original equipment piece. It fit perfect and was very easy to install took 10 minutes and worked great.

The low profile was just what I needed for it to fit the narrow opening at the bottom of my fireplace. It has fairly powerful magnets on the back, so mounting was pretty much a snap.

(More customer reviews)This fan moves some very serious air.I use it for drying floors, comfort on hot days, and ventilation (Oops, burnt the food in the oven and smoke is everywhere - not for long!)

It is a centrifugal fan (also known as a radial or squirrel cage), so it creates not only high velocity but high pressure. You can really feel the air impacting you. The best of all worlds, right? Well, it does have the downside of being loud for its size. High pressure fans also require more energy to operate.

I did not give this fan a 5-star rating for one reason: maintenance.The manufacturer did not make this fan easy to clean.After a few years of use, its performance had a very noticable drop.I spent a lot of time getting this thing open, and when I finally did the source of performance degredation was obvious.Trapped inside the center of the impeller was a great amount of dirt/lent. The blades also had a big buildup of grime.The fan was actually functioning as an air cleaner, but that was clogging it. There is absolutely no way you can clean this fan without opening it up, and opening it up was not easy.

This is characteristic of a centrifugal fan, due to its high pressure.Lasko knows this, but they still made it difficult to access for cleaning. Unless you are a bit handy with tools and willing to disassemble electronics, expect any fan of this type to steadily drop in performance.

(More customer reviews)Every once in a while a product comes out and I am simply amazed at how useful it is.I used this fan recently and I can say that this is a great design that is well constructed.Though using this as a room fan works fine (there are three speed settings that allow you to adjust the airflow - the highest speed moves A LOT of air), what makes this fan truly shine is its directional capabilities.The stream of air being pushed by this fan is pretty narrow (focusing the air movement just where you want it) and the up/down swiveling nature of the base means that this thing can be pointed at the exact spot where air is needed (like a wet spot on the carpeting, or your back as you stand at your workbench on a steamy summer evening).The grounded outlets are simply icing on the cake.

I have seen this fan for significantly less at other stores (Menard's), so shop around.Otherwise, I recommend this as a well designed, quality product!

Lasko Pro Performance Blower Fan, 4900 Review

(More customer reviews)Hey folks! I must say that this Lasko fan is VERY impressive. I've owned this fan for well over 5 years ... and it works just as good as day 1.

It's exceptionally quite because it uses a turbine - not blades. It moves a vast amount of air, even on low speed. It would blow away any typical $15 box fan. I'd be willing to bet that it would outperform an 18" Patten high velocity air circulator! It's also better than the similar looking Stanley, which get high marks from reviewers here.

I found that the Stanley is a smaller less powerful fan and it's not built as tough. Remember to compare the size and weight and you'll see a difference. For an extra $10, this fan is a much better buy.

Incidentally, I have 3 cats and I had suspected that cat fur might have reduced the performance of this fan ... so I decided to take it apart. This was easily done by removing approximately 8 screws. My suspicions were correct! I found what appeared to be a 1/2 inch thick blanket of cat hair on the turbine. This was nearly choking the air flow. I cleaned it out and then blew it out with my air compressor. The fan now runs like new, full force again.

The reason to tell this cat story is simply - you need to know that this fan is serviceable ... by you, as long as you own a Philips screwdriver. Other fans cannot be serviced and would NEVER last over 5 years.

I saw no reviews on this fan, so I felt compelled to let you know my experience. I would recommend this fan over ANY other fan without hesitation.

One last note: as an alternate choice, I also had this Lasko tower fan (turbine) for over 5 years. Lasko #4924 High Velocity Blower (overpriced here - $49 at Sam's Club)
