Whether your a seasoned DIY'r or new to home automation, SmartLinc - INSTEON Plug-In Starter Kit has everything you need to experience remote control of lights and appliances from inside your home, on your way home from the office, or halfway around the world on vacation. The SmartLinc Central Controller connects to an existing router (required) allowing for direct communication via the Internet or Wi-Fi from an iPhone, iPod touch or any other Web-enabled PC, Phone or PDA . With SmartLinc, you can check to see if you've left the lights on and even turn them off while you're at the office or you can simply dim the lights while relaxing on your couch. Included are two dimmer switches which will replace existing switches to each control a dimmable light and an On/Off relay switch which will replace an existing switch to control a non-dimmable fluorescent light or appliance. From your web-enabled device, you can control the modules individually or as "scenes."

(More customer reviews)This is a fantastic switch, with minor exceptions. It's functional, and you can easily setup wired remotes that communicate with the main switch. Setting speed on one sets the others, etc. However, the patent pending "return to neutral" feature had some problems in my units - the paddle sticks.
This isn't an original feature anyways, Smarthome Insteon products have had it for years. In any case, the problem I had was that the tolerance between the paddle and the plastic around was too tight, especially when installed in a coverplate (which pinches a little bit). A few minutes of sanding on the sides and bottom fixed the problem (600 grit, wet, you could also use 400). Now the switches are snappy and look great. Without this issue they would be 5 star in my book.

Finishing my basement - did reviews and purchased Panasonic FV08VKS2 because I thought the option to continue running for X amount of time after you shut it off was a cool feature.I couldn't get this to work though.There's a technical wiring diagram provided, but no descriptions or instructions related to how to wire it.Just shows a power switch and a level switch.So there is the hot/neutral/ground, and two reds - that I assume are for a speed control.So with just the hot/neutral/ground hooked up - when I shut it off, it's definitely off - which I know this is obvious - but there's not indication I should hook up another hot to one of the reds or anything.So the delay control that is supposed to run it after you shut it off - this actually worked exact opposite for me - when I set the delay - it means that the fan doesn't turn ON until that delay is completed.This is messed up and useless.

Anyway - I had also purchase a Braun fan for a diff area in basement - install to the joists and wiring was so much more straightforward - got that at Home Depot.

The Panasonic is very quite though - you could run it full time and probably wouldn't notice.

(More customer reviews)After doing some research, I found out that these types of on/off switches do not work in housing where the wiring does not have a neutral.I can't comment on the effectiveness of the switch in houses with updated wiring.
