Finishing my basement - did reviews and purchased Panasonic FV08VKS2 because I thought the option to continue running for X amount of time after you shut it off was a cool feature.I couldn't get this to work though.There's a technical wiring diagram provided, but no descriptions or instructions related to how to wire it.Just shows a power switch and a level switch.So there is the hot/neutral/ground, and two reds - that I assume are for a speed control.So with just the hot/neutral/ground hooked up - when I shut it off, it's definitely off - which I know this is obvious - but there's not indication I should hook up another hot to one of the reds or anything.So the delay control that is supposed to run it after you shut it off - this actually worked exact opposite for me - when I set the delay - it means that the fan doesn't turn ON until that delay is completed.This is messed up and useless.

Anyway - I had also purchase a Braun fan for a diff area in basement - install to the joists and wiring was so much more straightforward - got that at Home Depot.

The Panasonic is very quite though - you could run it full time and probably wouldn't notice.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this ventilation fan because it was rated very quiet and also because it boasts a damper that will keep cold air from coming in.

Claim #1 was true--fan is almost imperceptible when on.
Claim #2 not so much.The damper still allowed a great deal of cold air to billow in.

My main problem, however, with this is that Panasonic has a unique light bulb base which makes it impossible to replace their bulb with any other brand (the base has little notches that aren't in the center of the base, they're off center, not like any other 4-pin base, so nothing else fits).Not only that, but Panasonic only offers ONE type of bulb for this--an 18 W 3500K bulb--which is very bright and very blue/cool.So if you wanted softer, warmer light in your bathroom, you're basically screwed.And if you need to replace the bulb, yep, that's right--you've got to go to Panasonic.

It took me 6 phone calls, 4 disconnects, 3 stupid customer service people, and finally 1 phone call back from Panasonic to confirm that they indeed do not have any other bulbs but the 18W 3500K model.

If had known this, I certainly would have made a different choice and suffered through a little bit of a noisier fan.

(More customer reviews)These are very good products, but they're designed for install in bare studs, not really to replace and existing fan unless you removed sheetrock and took out the houseing from the old fan.The great thing about it, however, is that I just took the new parts out of this one and they fit right into the old houseing.Very cool.Problem?They don't sell the guts individually so you have to buy the whole thing and then you're left with a metal sqare to recyle.

(More customer reviews)During our first bathroom renovation I purchased what I thought was a good fan and it was way too loud. Pulled it out and purchased this one. Has turned out to be just perfect. Extremely quiet but it's 'just' loud enough to know it's on and I like that.

We're now redoing our second bathroom and will get another one of these. Don't forget to calculate your bathroom CFM (LxWxH ÷ 7.5) so you know what size to purchase.
