SPT Portable Air Conditioner, 9000 BTUs, WA-9000E Review

Let me explain what I think about this unit. I have 3500 square feet house in Central Florida and top of the line heat pump Central Air just installed a few years ago. All works perfect except one thing: I have to cool the entire house with it and at 4500 Watts in case of power down my diesel generator at 6500 Watts is just about running it when 1100 Watts refrigerator and lights are on at the same time. Another thing is Central Air conditioner will get you over 250 bucks electric bill during summer and this is when thermostat is set to only 79 degrees Fahrenheit. Now, I ordered this unit thinking it is going to be so-so portable that can subsidize cooling now and then. The unit came in UPS, it is about 84 lbs, has wheels, is very quiet, does wonders drying the air, very nice quality built and components, remote, digital thermostat, can be converted to auto drain with just additional hose if you really must, runs on 1100 Watts, and is pleasant to look at. At 9000 BTU it is very nice gizmo indeed - no vibrations, smooth working and very well made. That very same day I received it and run it for entire day, I ordered another one just like it. I hope that explains how good and useful this thing is. Get one if you need one and you will be happy you did. BTW, packaging for shipping was absolutely exemplary - this thing would have to be dropped from 2nd floor on concrete to get damaged in all that styrofoam and cartons. I am very happy with this purchase. Remote is also quite handy when you use it in the bedroom at night. Water tank that had to be emptied is actually good thing, because no worries about over flooding the unit, and you can distilled water for ironing or car battery if you ever need that. The conversion adapter for continues water drain is included if you need that. I am somehow puzzled with negative review posted under Alesia, because I went to this individual's "see my other reviews" and there were like a HUNDRED of portable units, all with the SAME REVIEW and all purchased on the SAME DAY. That is very strange indeed. It is either mistake or overdose. Anyway, I think this unit is working well and it is worth the money. I use it already for over a month and it is better then ever.

Soleus PE4-12R-03 12,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner, 3-Speed Fan and 60 Pint Dehumidifier Review

Soleus PE4-12R-03 12,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner, 3-Speed Fan and 60 Pint Dehumidifier

Shame on Soleus. They designed the drainage function of this machine so poorly as to be virtually unusable. Apparently the unit is supposed to be evaporative, which means it isn't supposed to need draining. However, when hooked up on the humid east coast during a heat wave, the internal tank was filling up every couple of hours. When full, the machine shuts down.

To drain the unit, you have to unscrew a tiny cap which is located at the very bottom of the machine, UNDER the hot air exhaust hose.Picture trying to access this down at the floor. They give you a tiny tray, a 1/2 inch deep, and suggest, I kid you not, that you unscrew the cap, drain into the tiny tray, and then screw the cap back on to stop the flow of water.Since the capacity of the tray is about a 1/2 cup and the capacity of the internal tank is a liter and a half, you are going to have to repeat this process about 16 times to drain the tank.An alternative, they helpfully tell you, is to go to the hardware store and get a hose with an inner diameter of 5/8 inch.Which, unfortunately, does not actually fit on the drainage valve. As far as I can tell, the only possible solution to this is to elevate the air conditioner and attach the correct fitting hose and have it drain into a larger container.Which all just sort of defeats the purpose of a portable unit, doesn't it?

This Soleus unit was donated to my organization by a friend who bought it and couldn't use it because of the drain problems. We are going to use it in a smaller office and will rig up a permanent drain system.

The bottom line is that portable units are ALWAYS less efficient than their window mount cousins because the heat thrown through the exhaust hose radiates into the room and must be compensated for by the btus of the unit.In my office, we have 8000 btu window units which cool our 14 foot ceiling offices very efficiently, whereas a 9000 btu portable unit couldn't lower the ambient temp at all.So, if you can possibly go with a window unit, do it. If you absolutely must have a portable, make sure you get a higher btu than you think you need and do NOT go with the Soleus. It very poorly designed.

SPT SF-608R Portable Evaporative Air Cooler Review

SPT SF-608R Portable Evaporative Air Cooler
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First off, this is NOT an air conditioner. If you expect your room to be freezing cold, this is not the product for you. It's a COOLER, and it does its job very well.It works by evaporating water.Try soaking a T-shirt, wringing it out, and putting it on wet to get the effect. It doesn't work very well in humid areas, but it works GREAT where the air is dry.
I'm in southern California, where the humidity varies pretty widely.I place the cooler six or eight feet from my chair, and on the hottest days I'm quite comfortable.
Benefits:
* it's about 1/5 the cost of an air conditioner
* operating expense is a fraction of the cost of air conditioning
* neat features! (timer, sleep function, etc.)
* remote control

Drawbacks:
* it's not freezing cold like air conditioning.

Product Description:
Versatile, lightweight, and economical, this evaporative air cooler easily rolls from room to room for use anywhere in the home or office. Unlike a fan that blows hot air and more energy efficient than an air conditioner, the appliance uses water to cool a personal space up to 12 degrees lower than the ambient temperature. The air cooler works by endothermic reaction (a reaction that consumes heat). The unit sucks air through a wick saturated with water; as the air flows through the wick, some of the water evaporates into the air, consuming the heat that was in the air. A cool air stream then gets blown out the front of the unit through oscillating louvers for even distribution.
The appliance can also be used as just a fan or a humidifier when temperature is not an issue. Easily change the settings with the included remote control. The unit provides an air flow of 23 feet per second, a water-consumption rate of 0.6 to 0.7 liters per hour, and a 10-liter water-tank capacity. Other details include a nylon and photocatalystic filter, three air speeds, a sleep mode, and a timer that can be set from a half hour to seven-and-a-half hours. Though perfect for use in dry climates, please note that the appliance does not work very effectively in areas with high humidity since it utilizes water to cool. The 60-watt air cooler measures 12 by 16 by 25 inches and carries a one-year warranty.

Mini Tower Fan with Ionizer Review

Mini Tower Fan with Ionizer

I got a new job and wanted to get a new fan for my desk. I work in an office and didn't want a real loud fan, but something with some noise to drown out the rest of the normal sounds in the office. This fan does that well.

I only have on gripe and that's the BEEP sound it makes when you turn it off and on. Other than that, it's a perfect fan.

Soleus Portable Air Conditioner/Heater/Dehumidifier/Fan, 12,000 BTUs, PH3-12R-03 Review

Soleus Portable Air Conditioner/Heater/Dehumidifier/Fan, 12,000 BTUs, PH3-12R-03

This air conditioner/heater/dehumidifier is highly overrated by the manufacturer. 12,000 BTU should make your home feel like a refrigerator. It doesn't! It doesn't come close to the air cooling capacity of window units with less than half this rating. The drainage outlet is located way too close to the floor thereby not allowing for a hose to drain properly without elevating the unit. While there is a condensation overflow tank drainage again is an issue. I ran the unit for a solid eight hours at the lowest temperature setting/highest fan speed and the first floor of my small home was only marginally cooler. I was very disappointed as I had hoped this was the answer to both my cooling and heating needs.

HOLMES WINDOW FAN Review

HOLMES WINDOW FAN
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Ok, so I bought this fan about a month ago. I live in a studio apartment in hot LA on the top floor. I have no ac and no ceiling fans, I also can't put a window ac unit in and couldn't afford a $400 portable ac unit. After having tried multiple different floor fans that did absolutely nothing I decided to try this fan.

This fan is a godsend for me because it makes my apartment bearable most of the time. I lean it against my window and it circulates the hot air out instead of just around the room like regular fans. On some occasions it almost feels as if I had ac. Now this is very rarely, but it has happened.

I recommend this fan 100%. It doesn't make my whole apt cool, mainly the area right around it but for the price you can't expect a miracle. So if you are broke and hot definitely get this fan!!

Lasko Twin Window Fan, 2137 Review

Lasko Twin Window Fan, 2137
Average Reviews:

This twin window fan was the perfect size for our narrow windows. We put the fan in the window hoping to create a nice breeze through our apartment, but the fan did not perform as we had hoped. You cannot feel the breeze from the fan if you are more than 2-3 feet away.We would have been better off buying one of the bigger twin window fans (which would not fit inside our windows) and just using the feet that come with most if not all twin window fans and leaving the fan on the window sill in front of the window.
