Fan is multi-directional but non-oscillating - oscillation would be a big plus;
More importantly, there are 2 speeds: lame and lamer - this thing does NOT circulate much air at all.
I consider the purchase a mistake, but I won't return it because I've drilled the four holes in my shelf, so it might as well stay there.
Don't buy this model until they can put some more oomph into it, that's my advice.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this product a few weeks ago.When it arrived and I opened the box I was surprised at its size.In addition to being tall (that I knew because of the description) it is big and heavy to move around.So far it has been working well and I am satisfied with it.However, if the buyer is an older person it is wise to know that you may have trouble moving it around.

I wanted something tall and I don't really mind that it is bigger/heavier than I anticipated but someone else might.So far so good...

This is by far the loudest non-industrial fan I've ever heard.It sounds like some parts inside are misaligned.I'd return it under warranty, except that my friend has the exact same fan with the exact same problem, so it doesn't seem to be an isolated issue.

Go buy a cheap fan from a hardware store.I can basically guarantee it will be better than this thing.

I only have on gripe and that's the BEEP sound it makes when you turn it off and on. Other than that, it's a perfect fan.

Vornado 660 Air Circulator, 4 Speeds Review

(More customer reviews)I live in a medium sized 1 bedroom apartment. I wanted a small fan. I originally bought a smaller, $40 Vornado fan and found that I had to turn it all the way up to circulate air in the room, which meant the fan made a lot of noise. I did some comparison research on the Vornado web site, and found that this fan (the 660 series) has the lowest "power consumed to air moved" ratio of any other Vornado fan, meaning this is the most energy efficient fan that Vornado makes, so I returned the small fan and traded up for this fan.

This fan is much larger than what I thought I needed (and twice the price of the $40 fan I was looking at). This fan has better air circulation on the lowest setting than the smaller fan did on the highest setting. Since I'm using a lower fan setting, this fan is very quiet. Plus I have the option of turning it up all the way if I really want to move some air.

The directional focus of the fan works as advertised. I put the fan in one corner of the room, and can literally feel a column of air at the opposite corner of the room.

The circulation of the fan works as advertised. I can feel the fan drawing air in from the sides when I stand to one side of the fan. When I first turned the fan on, it was on a high shelf, and it drew up dust bunnies from the floor and spat them out. The temperature in the room feels more balanced. The AC doesn't seem to run as often (I'm writing this in the middle of the July 2010 heat wave in DC). There are no hot spots or cool spots in the room. I feel cooler, having a constant, subtle flow of air around me.

I'm very happy with this fan. This is one product that works as advertised and so far it has been worth every penny. I move it between the living room and the bedroom every day, and I will likely buy another one of these fans soon.

(More customer reviews)I have a difficult apartment to cool 20x40 feet, 12 foot ceiling, top floor, and no cross breeze. It could be cool outside and still the apartment was swetering. The difference this fan made is amazing. I have tried other fans including a pedestal 18 inch heavy duty fan. but none really helped unless blowing directly on you. I have this fan at about a 30 degree angle in a corner blowing into the room. The difference is amazing.

I was very hesitant to spend so much on a "plastic" fan but this has been a great investment. The is light so it can easily be moved around. It is well built and engineered. Plastic can be be sturdy. If this were made of metal it would be difficult to moving it around. The fan is relatively quiet especially on the lowest speed. I usually forget its on.

Some of the negative reviews seem to be for a different fan. GO figure.

As an artist I appreciate the design and I like the way it rotates down to keep the fan dust free. My one and only complaint is that it is difficult to turn on and off and to change the speed. The switch is located at the front on the bottom. It is a rotating switch and a little stiff. This was obviously done for design purposes, so that the switch would not intrude upon the design. In this instance they may have gone a little too far for design's sake. Having said that, it is still a superior fan and worth the price. I would buy this again and would recommend it.

It is great for sitting in a hot office, where you just want to cool yourself, without worrying about cooling the entire room. It works well where you already have air conditioning, but you want to save money on electricity by setting the thermostat a couple of degrees higher than normal.
