Fan is multi-directional but non-oscillating - oscillation would be a big plus;
More importantly, there are 2 speeds: lame and lamer - this thing does NOT circulate much air at all.
I consider the purchase a mistake, but I won't return it because I've drilled the four holes in my shelf, so it might as well stay there.
Don't buy this model until they can put some more oomph into it, that's my advice.

(More customer reviews)Pros: moves a lot of air, cool retro look is appealing, nice low frequency sound for those that like the white noise of a fan while they sleep, modestly priced for a product with a lot of steel content.

Cons: cheap plastic switch that feels destined to break before long, a little difficult to clean but this isn't much different from every other fan I've owned. One of the two I own has something loose in the motor housing that results in a metal to metal bell tone when it's oscillating. Probably something I can fix but at only about three months old, something I shouldn't have to deal with.

Bottom line: a good fan with a great look but a little pricey relative to comparable plastic fans (so is everything with high steel content lately). Long term reliability is a question mark. If all you want is a fan to move some air, this isn't the fan for you.

Vornado 660 Air Circulator, 4 Speeds Review

(More customer reviews)I live in a medium sized 1 bedroom apartment. I wanted a small fan. I originally bought a smaller, $40 Vornado fan and found that I had to turn it all the way up to circulate air in the room, which meant the fan made a lot of noise. I did some comparison research on the Vornado web site, and found that this fan (the 660 series) has the lowest "power consumed to air moved" ratio of any other Vornado fan, meaning this is the most energy efficient fan that Vornado makes, so I returned the small fan and traded up for this fan.

This fan is much larger than what I thought I needed (and twice the price of the $40 fan I was looking at). This fan has better air circulation on the lowest setting than the smaller fan did on the highest setting. Since I'm using a lower fan setting, this fan is very quiet. Plus I have the option of turning it up all the way if I really want to move some air.

The directional focus of the fan works as advertised. I put the fan in one corner of the room, and can literally feel a column of air at the opposite corner of the room.

The circulation of the fan works as advertised. I can feel the fan drawing air in from the sides when I stand to one side of the fan. When I first turned the fan on, it was on a high shelf, and it drew up dust bunnies from the floor and spat them out. The temperature in the room feels more balanced. The AC doesn't seem to run as often (I'm writing this in the middle of the July 2010 heat wave in DC). There are no hot spots or cool spots in the room. I feel cooler, having a constant, subtle flow of air around me.

I'm very happy with this fan. This is one product that works as advertised and so far it has been worth every penny. I move it between the living room and the bedroom every day, and I will likely buy another one of these fans soon.

Vornado 270 Flat Panel Air Circulator Review

I had the chance to compare its output side-by-side with another little fan I like, the Holmes Blizzard, and this Vornado (called the "Edge") blew the doors off the Blizzard!

I have not had the problem with a high-pitched whine that another customer alluded to, but my unit did develop an annoying rattle at high speed.

I found I could eliminate the rattle temporarily by tightening the screws on the back of the case.Unfortunately, the motor is so powerful at high speed that the screws would soon come loose again, and the rattle would resume.

So -- I installed locking washers under the screws on the back of the case (totalling sixty cents in parts), and I believe I have solved the rattle problem for good.

This is the reason I deducted one star -- customers shouldn't be doing Vornado's engineering for them!

Otherwise I use this fan both on the floor and on the shelf of a window too small for most box fans, and it excels at circulating great quantities of air.

Vornado CR1-0117-06 Under-cabinet Personal Fan Review

(More customer reviews)I live in a very hot climate, and our kitchen gets especially hot due to low air movement.I installed this fan under my cabinets myself.Actually bolting the fan to the underside of the cabinets wasn't too hard, and would have been much easier had I noticed the paper drill guide in the box.Another commenter complained about having to use bolts for the install, but I don't really think this is a justified complaint.You have to use something to hold the fan up, and the bases of most cabinets aren't thick enough to hold screws of any length.The bolts are smooth enough that they don't get in the way of anything in the cabinet.I do think that there are two areas for improvement.First, it would be nice if the top speed of the fan was a little more powerful.It moves the air through my kitchen, but not as well as the other fan I have, the Vornado Whole Room Air Circulator.Second, the instructions could explain how to install the cord through the back of the cabinets (as with most under cabinet lights).I wanted to run the cord from inside my cabinets through to the fan, and I had to take the fan apart and rewire it and put it back together, and it would have been easier if the instructions had included a section on how everything fit together.

That being said, this is the only under cabinet fan I have been able to find anywhere, so Vornado gets multiple points for innovation.In addition, they make good fans and it has really helped my kitchen get some circulation.I also highly recommend their other products.

Zippi Desk Fan - Green Review

(More customer reviews)I have had one of these for several years now. Its quiet, attractive, relatively compact and it really moves some air. Don't expect this to work for anything else than a few feet away, pointed directly at you. Its a desk fan, not a room fan. The blades are cloth and whisper silent. If you grab it touch it with your hand, no harm done. Also no cage or casing to gather dust or clean off. Mine looks at good now as 3 years ago when i bought it. Also, if you want something that looks nice on your desk and not just a cheap, clunky fan, the color varieties really make these stand out. The high setting I rarely use expect for in the summer.

This is also a pretty low power fan. Last year when Hurricane Ike knocked power out for a week, we used 2 of these at night (it was 90 degrees after the hurricane, go figure) to cool us and powered them off a duracell power block.Perfect solution. This is not a battery powered fan btw, duracell makes essentially a huge car battery in a case you can use for back up power.

(More customer reviews)I'm pretty happy with this little fan so far.I've got one of those houses which was never intended to be inhabited without air conditioning - windows which don't open all the way, dead end hallways with no vent for hot air, and so forth. Surviving summer without AC in this architectural disaster requires a fleet of strategically placed fans. The only functional windows in my living room are a pair of small decorative lights on either side of a picture window. This fan, at approximately 10 x 10 x 6 inches deep, is one of the few fans on the market which will actually fit into the tiny opening of my living room windows.Despite its diminutive size, this little fan manages to air out my entire living room when I come home after work and turn it on. Unlike a lot of vortex style fans, this one seems to pull air from the back and not just the sides, so it brings in outside air when it's sitting on a window sill.

As an artist I appreciate the design and I like the way it rotates down to keep the fan dust free. My one and only complaint is that it is difficult to turn on and off and to change the speed. The switch is located at the front on the bottom. It is a rotating switch and a little stiff. This was obviously done for design purposes, so that the switch would not intrude upon the design. In this instance they may have gone a little too far for design's sake. Having said that, it is still a superior fan and worth the price. I would buy this again and would recommend it.

(More customer reviews)I wanted a small, sturdy fan to sit a the foot of my bed and circulate air while I slept. When I set this Patton fan on low, and point the fan directly at the ceiling, this fan runs quietly doing its job.

The noise level increases as you turn the fan from low to medium to high, as does the air flow. Unlike a box fan, the direction of the air can be zeroed in by tightening the side knobs, and they don't vibrate loose.

On high, you notice the increase in noise. If it was in the same room, then you would have to turn the TV up slightly. I would compare it to the level of my microwave running. On low, you wouldn't notice it. Either way, you wouldn't have to raise your voice to talk over it while on the phone.

I believe this fan was really designed to work in a shop or garage. Its built sturdy with many quality plastic parts, and easy to move. Its clean and functional design would also work in an office environment or nursing home setting. Easy to assemble, smaller footprint than I expected, and should last many years.

(More customer reviews)My wife suffers from hotflashes and finding a fan that had a concentrated airstream and was not so loud that it kept us awake has been a challenge. I first saw the Vornado Clamp-on Air Circulator(fan) in a gardening catalog as the solution for stagnant air in greenhouses. In researching the Vornado I found that Amazon carried them, so I ordered one, and upon receiving it looked for an appropriate place to mount it, I finally decided to clamp it to our closets sliding door. One of my concerns was that the clamp might not hold securely or that vibrations would resonate through whatever it was clamped. I needn't have worried the clamp is rubber padded and quite strong and didn't budge during operation.I turned it on to the high setting and was suprised by the strength of the airstream, it was a little loud so I tried the low setting and the noise level dropped considerably though the airstream did not diminish very much and is adequate for keeping my wife cool and letting me sleep without earplugs. We also travel and our Vornado goes with us we just clamp it to the back of the desk chair every hotel room has and move it next to the bed and let the air blow. The Vornado Air Circulator is well made, easy to clean, and I expect it to give many years of service. I would not hesitate to recommend the Vornado Air Circulators to anyone who needs to move air in a concentrated stream and the clamp on feature lets you mount it where you need it. I also use it in the garage and other rooms in the house anytime we need to get the air moving. The only thing I would change is to give the clamp another inch or so of clamping range, depth and width, to be able to attach to a wider range of objects. Other than that, I would not change anything, even the yellow color though they do make one in dark grey or black.

Vornado V6 Flippi Personal Circulator Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this fan despite the high price because I have been impressed by larger my larger Vornado fans.This fan does not come close to maintaining the level of quality of Vornado's larger line of fans.

The fan is powered by electrical outlet (not batteries), has both low and high settings, swivels both vertically and horizontally, and swivels completely downwards for storage when not in use.

The key issues I have are-

Air output:
The air really dribbles out of the fan.I had a coworker place his hand in front of the fan and ask if it was turned on.Even when switched to High, it makes a lot more noise but doesn't seem to push more air.The max range that you can actually feel the air moving is about 24 inches.

Noise:
The fan makes quite a bit of noise, definitely not whisper quiet.Its actually louder than fans 5 times its size.I avoid using the high setting because its too loud for an office environment, but at the same time the low setting doesn't provide enough air.

Design:
The fan looks cool and is easy to swivel both sideways and vertically.Unfortunately, the fan does have a few design issues that just don't make much sense.The off/high/low switch is located at the very base of the fan.This combined with the fact that it takes significant pressure to flip the switch means you have to use one hand to hold down the fan while you flip the switch with the other hand.This becomes annoying when you have to quickly flip it off so you can hear what someone is saying to you.

Additionally, in order to reach the low setting you have to flip past the very loud high setting, making it impossible to discretely turn off or on the fan.This is worsened by the fact that it is not easily possible to flip it past 2 settings without using 2 separate motions because of the switch's wheel like design.

In summary:
This fan is way to expensive for what it offers.You are paying for the "Vornado" brand but it does not deliver the same high quality normally seen in other Vornado fans.Look elsewhere.

Vornado V6 Flippi Personal Fan, Small, Raindrop Green Review

(More customer reviews)I didn't realize how tiny this fan is! It's quite cute and surprisingly pushes a lot of air for it size. The noise level is acceptable and comparable to other vornado products (it's not super-super quite, but it's not loud). Note that this doesn't oscillate as does the larger models.

I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 because through all my research I was mislead that this oscillated (which is probably my faulty expectations) and that the fan wasn't larger (which wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the needs of my purchase). Otherwise this fan is definitely a cool little fan that pushes a surprising amount of air for it's size. (though, don't expect a tornado).

Vornado V8 Flippi Personal Fan, Medium, Black Review

(More customer reviews)I bought the Flippi V8 today and I love it. The main reason for my love is that it replaces a floor model fan that stood out like a sore thumb. This fan sits on the shelf, oscillates, and does what it's designed to do-keep me cool.

I do agree that the oscillation switch could have been better placed but because this is a "personal" fan, I do not see that I will need to access the switch very often. If I do, I can just pick the fan up, turn it around, and flip the switch.

I intend to let it run 24/7 and I have 4 cats so it will be interesting to see how long it last.

(More customer reviews)I have an assortment of Vornado fans throughout my home. Why? Because they are the quietest high performance fans available and the quality can't be beat. Their special fan blade design is far and away more efficient and quieter than any competitor. This 7 series (largest size) has the extra two foot section option in the box to lift the fan up to about 48" off the floor. Vornado calls these air circulators and not fans. That is because of the tornado effect of spinning the air in a column to an opposite wall where upon the air stream rebounds off the wall and circulates around the room back to start over again. It really does work well. Instead of having the wind blowing in your face and ears, all the air in the room is actively circulating providing a cooling and freshening feeling.The new model has a three speed switch on the rear of the motor as opposed to the past variable speed control mounted on the base.This three speed switch is quicker to use and you really only need 3 speeds. This is a "personal fan" for those that want some pleasing and gentle air movement to keep them cool; it's not a Vornado air exchanger. I have a Vornado fan and it is not something I want blowing on me all the time, nor is it something you can ignore. Those seeking to cool their attics look elsewhere.

If you look at the pictures you'll see that it's small, it has cloth blades, and it doesn't take much thought to know you won't be clearing a room with it. Have you ever found yourself fanning yourself with a magazine or newspaper? If so, you know that it feels pretty good and that's what this fan does, it provides a gentle and pleasant breeze on the low setting and a much stronger breeze on the high setting. Again, it's a "personal fan" designed to provide air movement for individuals, not rooms, groups, or crowds, and it does it extremely well.

The benefits to this fan are:

1) It's almost completely silent. Read in bed, carry on a conversation, or work peacefully at your desk all without being disturbed by fan noise. it has two speeds and the low speed is almost imperceptible. I mistakenly left it on last night because I couldn't hear it.

2) Cloth blades mean you can touch it, or your kids or pets can, without harm.

3) It's very small and folds up even smaller. you can travel with this if you want because it will fit in your suitcase. Try that with a larger Vornado.

4) They look great! I got the black one, but now I want one in all colors just for fun. It's a very stylish and fun little fan.The negatives to this fan are:
