(More customer reviews)I have five fans throughout the house, and this is by far the worst.It makes a loud noise even on the lowest setting, and on high blows less air than my other 20" box fans.I have not used the thermostat setting because it's so noisy it would wake me up with it cutting on and off.Until now, I have been very pleased with the noise and performance of the Lasko fans I own -- maybe I got a lemon.How disappointed am I?I'm online right now to buy a replacement for this brand new fan.

(More customer reviews)I got this to replace an older and similar fan by the same maker but the plastic is really pretty cheap.It's quiet and works fine, though the air flow is less than the older one I have and less than a "wind machine," which, if you look closely, you can see that the blades are wider, and the construction is definitely better so I think worth the extra few bucks.Unless you have narrowish windows, in whcih case this one is a couple inches narrower and so more like to fit.There's actually a small crack in the plastic, so I'm going to send this one back.Could be worse, but could be better.Note that there's another Lakewood listed here and that might be better quality, but I'm tired of mailing these things around so am gonna stick with the wind machine!

Lasko 3720 Premium 20-Inch Weather-Shield Performance Box Fan Review

(More customer reviews)While checking Amazon in the course of recommending this fan to a friend, I was surprised by the mediocre rating people had given it and decided to add my experience to the reviews.Like Richard Shrum above, I'm confused about what fan some of the negative reviewers were talking about.A few of their comments don't seem to compute with the fan I own, which has 3720 marked on its frame, matches the picture above, and is listed on Lasco's website.

I've owned mine since April 2005 and have run it as a window fan (on low) from eight to eighteen hours a day, for about 325 days each year, and it still operates as well as it did on day one.With this kind of use, I've sort of expected something to go wrong or burn out, but nothing has.All I've had to do is turn it on, turn it off, and clean it every four or five months - a fifteen minute chore.

As I was writing this, I got to wondering just what my use actually amounted to.Based on very conservative estimates, I figure my fan has run about 3700 hours each year, or about 12,200 hours since I bought it. Impressive as that figure is, get this - since the fan runs at 635 RPM on the low setting, that means the fan's motor, bearing, and blade have revolved over 460 million times and still counting!(Check my math if you want, I sure did: 635 x 60 x 12200 = 464,820,000.)

So I think you can see why, for me, this Lasco 3720 has been what all appliances should be, but seldom are: simple, effective, dependable, and reasonably priced. Who knows, maybe there have been quality control problems or production changes since I bought mine.Nevertheless, the basic design has worked exceptionally well for me, and I don't think you should overlook this model if it looks like the meets your requirements.

and if you are looking for something much more effecient than
the common box fan that you see in department stores, this is
really a fan. The first one I bought had the C.F.M. rating on
it, which was 9600----They don't put that on the fan anymore,
but it is a three speed fan that will really circulate some
air, and can be adjusted to blow straight up. Nothing I have
seen even comes close for the money----

(More customer reviews)I HAD to review this after reading the only other review for this fan. I am certain I have reviewed this fan for Amazon before, but for some reason don't see it here. I use two of these fans to move air around in my 20x10 Swiss Gear tent while camping in Texas. It is made from plastic and like all other plastic products, it is breakable if you muscle your way to using it wrong, but usage is fairly straight forward. To open the leg, simply swing it down from the back of the fan on its hinge. Opening the battery compartment is fairly simple as well if you understand what lock, and unlock icons mean. The fan moves LOTS of air, and the ones I own have taken plenty of abuse being tossed into and out of the back of my truck for the last two years. My only complaint with them is the battery compartment cover is a little tough to get back on until you figure out exactly how it works, and on high it will suck an expensive set of D cell batteries down in 24 hours. If you use these a lot, I would STRONGLY recommend getting a couple of sets of rechargable D cells and a charger, OR getting the model with the built in rechargable batteries. I like that this model is also available with a transformer that you can use to run it off of 110v power, which makes camping in sites with electricity much less of a drain in the wallet! I rated this fan a 5 as I feel it is the best of its breed. It is NOT to be compared to a corded box fan or anything like that since you do different things with them. But this fan is the absolute best of its kind that I have tried. I have used several different models from Coleman, this thing moves so much more air that there really is no comparison. The Coleman fans simply do not move air like this thing does...

(More customer reviews)The Lasco 20-inch fan moves a lot of air!Don't plan to place it anywhere near loose papers.I purchased it to help cool my garage in the evening, so I don't care if the fan is noisy.I only care that it moves cool outside air into the garage and blows out the hot stuff.I already had two fans working out there, and hoped a third would help me get ahead of the accumulated heat.The Lasco fan does the job all on its own so I've retired the original two. I have a large 3-car garage with a 15' ceiling -- there is a lot of air to move.The fan has 3 speeds: high is very powerful, medium is powerful, and low still moves more air than the average fan.Because it is very powerful, there is definitely a fan 'hum' which to me is the comforting sound of a fan doing its job.If you are looking for a fan that will do the job quickly, though not silently, you cannot do better than this.

(More customer reviews)This fan is neither as powerful nor as quiet as the Vornado fan it tries to imitate, but compared to some of the other fans on the market today, the Honeywell Mega Turbo is pretty darn good.It moves an impressive amount of air, is solidly constructed, and comes with a reassuring 5-year warranty.

UPDATE: I just discovered that this fan cannot be taken apart for cleaning.I would change the rating to two stars if I could.
